Feast of the Assumption

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For those who would like to read more about the history and meaning of this feast, visit Crossroads Initiative for a helpful overview. Marcellino also has a concise and interesting MP3 download which I'm planning to share with the boys later today.

From today's Gospel:

And Mary said:

"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever."

Lisa: This day has special meaning to my husband and me. Fourteen years ago, when our youngest was barey 5 months old, he had a heart attack while out jogging. Cars didn't stop. He was several hundred feet from a farmhouse. He offered prayers up to Mary, and said that he would decdicate his life to her if she helped him through this situation. He was able to crawl to the front door, and the people then called an ambulance and me. He was in intensive care for over 7 days, and he was given the last rites. Miraculously, he came home to us on this feast day, and he's been fine ever since. His devotion to Mary is incredible. She's an integral part of our family life. Blessing to you and your family.
